 In the Ancient Sri Lanka The kingdom Polonnaruwa Served as second major capital of it. flourishing from the 11th to the 13th century after the decline and destruction of the former capital, Anuradhapura. Initially established as a military post and briefly ruled by the South Indian Chola dynasty in the late 10th century, it was recaptured and made the capital by Sinhalese King Vijayabahu I in 1070.
